3/14-  After much anticipation and a very emotional week, the 92 Storm Orange team began KSSL  play this weekend. On Sat. they took on the 92 Mockingbird Green squad in Louisville. The match started a little rough for Storm as Mockingbird stuck a goal on Storm in the 4th min of play on a counter attack after storm was knocking on the door on their end of the pitch about to score as well. Storm came back and had several nice shots on goal. Finally in the 12th min of play, David Mahan followed in shot off the goalies hands to tie the game . Storm controlled the midfield with Kyle Blair and Jonathan Kellogg for much of the remaining half. The defense led by Peter Zink and Matt Hall kept the Mockingbird offense at bay until the 35th minute when the MB Green squad made it 2-1 with a laser of a shot from 20 yards out. The 1st half ended with Mockingbird ahead 2-1.  Storm came out fired up the second half and had several chances to get the equalizer.  Parker Banta, Matt Hulsing, and Sal Carmona all had shots on goal but the keeper made great stops.  In the 51st min Kyle Blair found the back of the net to tie the match up at 2-2. Both teams had several set pieces the rest of the game which gave them opportunities to score but the defenses won out and the match ended in a draw. Coach Banta was very pleased with all his players as everyone contributed to the effort. 92 Storm Orange’s next game will be next Sunday March 22nd against Kentucky Rush in Berea at Madison Southern High School.

3/22- On Sunday in Berea at Madison Southern High School the 92 Storm Orange took on the 92 Kentucky Rush soccer club. The Rush had Storm on there heals from the get go. Nice technical play and precision passing put pressure on the defense as goalie Hunter Dean had to make several stops off Rush shots that were on frame. As is the case when a team is getting lots of shots on goal, 1 finally broke through the defense at the 11 min mark to put storm down 1-0. Nevertheless Storm struck back just a few short minutes later. Sal Carmona took a ball down the middle off a counter attach and moved it right and got a shot off from 15 yards and it found the back of the net at the 15 minute mark to tied the score at 1-1. The first half ended with neither team scoring again but both had opportunities. The second half of play was dominated by Rush. They broke through quickly in the second half with a goal in the 47th min. Rush kept constant pressure on goalie Taylor Higgs but he held steadfast throughout most of the rest of the half. Storm was having problems getting its offense going as the Rush defense was rock solid with pressure and defending the passing lanes. By controlling the midfield Rush was keeping the majority of the possession of the ball and it resulted in another rush goal in the 73rd goal on a through ball that left the goalie one on one with a Rush forward and the goal was scored. Rush added another goal late on a controversial penalty kick to go up 4-1 but Storm didn’t quit and got the offense going once again. Parker Banta found the net in the 87th minute of play after storm bombarded the Rush goalie several times. The game ended at 4-2. Coach Banta was disappointed in the loss but saw some good things from some of the players. 92 Storm Orange returns home on April 11th to take on United 1996.
