2008-09 Season Breaking News 3/14: Long time 92 Storm player Ryan Robinson passed away from an unexpected and tragic illness on March 10, 2009. Our team is devastated to lose our teammate and friend. Our hearts go out to his mother, Patti, sister, Rachel, father, Tom, step father Mike and his girlfriend, Sidney. Ryan was a great friend, a dynamic and excellent player, a great student, a great teammate and a passionate competitor. He will truly be missed beyond words.
92 Storm has dedicated the remainder of the 2009 season to Ryan and any and all hardware or accolades will be given to his family. God bless Ryan's family and may his memory be the treasure of our time with him. We know Ryan's spirit will be with us every time we step on the pitch.
3/20 - 92 Storm will kick off at 9:20am on Saturday morning in the Kick in the Bluegrass tournament versus the Vine Grove Vipers, a team Storm has not played in 5 years. Saturday afternoon, Storm plays KY State Semifinalist LFC Premier. Should the team advance, the Semis and Finals are at 8am and 1pm Sunday.
92s take Ohio Elite Showcase Group 3/2/09 - In some brutally cold weather at the Town and Country Complex in Wilder, KY, 92 Storm produced its best peformances since adding 8 new players over the past summer at the Ohio Elite Showcase. In the top flight Vapor Division, Storm first met Eagles SC Black (FKA COSA Express) on a cold and windy Friday night. Storm played hard and had the better of the match, but ended up losing the opener 2-1. Kenny Klump hit a nice left footed shot on Storm's goal. Despite the loss, Storm GK Charles Lambert was superb. On Saturday morning, Storm faced a very physical Chicago Fire Jrs team. In one of their best displays of football, Storm took Fire Jrs apart from the opening whistle. Delgado and Huffmyer netted on assists from Lobbo and Ware and Garrett Justice led a back line consisting of Williams, Stewart, McDonald and Klump to produce the shutout. Despite playing through a rolled ankle, Ty Stewart had a very strong game at the back. New addition Matt McDonald was strong all weekend for Storm. New Storm GK Alex Moody kept the clean sheet and made a few fine saves. Quality wing play from Maddux, Robinson and Ware was a big part of the team's success going forward, with Sharma, Evans, Cothran and Huffmyer providing distribution as the team adjusted to the small pitch and windy conditions. Storm then defeated Indiana state semifinalist Indy Burn 3-0 on Sunday in its best showing to win the group, with Cothran scoring a penalty from Lobbo's foul and Ware producing a great first half and scoring 2 goals. Evans had a good match in the middle of the park, with Robinson and Maddux providing wing threats along with Ware. Delgado was creative and partnered with target man Lobbo to create an effective strike partnership. Justice, williams, Craven, Mcdonald and Klump held the back line and produced the team's second consecutive shutout in large part due to another fine match from GK Lambert. This final peformance left the team's standings at 2 wins, 1 loss, 6 goals for, 2 against and in 1st place on points. The team all played well and the performance did not drop on any substitutions. There are many players capable of impacting a game at any moment with this group. The team now look on to a major early season test against region 2 power CUP Red at Xavier University on Saturday and will Open Midwest Region League play on Sunday vs. Kings SA at Wilder's Town and country complex. The following weekend, Storm travels to familiar grounds at Goebel Soccer Complex in Evansville, IN to take on Indiana and Midwest Region League contender FC Evansville in a morning friendly. In the afternoon match, Storm faces a very strong team in Lou Fusz Sulincevski from St Louis, MO. The following 21-22 weekend, Storm will participate in the local Kick in the Bluegrass tournament in Versailles, KY. It is a fine event held nearby and is very well organized. Storm's group Opponents are LFC Premier and Vine Grove Vipers. On the final weekend of March, the boys are back on familiar grounds again, with a friendly against a brilliant Eagles Blue side and for a Buckeye match scheduled against Columbus Crew jrs Gold in Columbus, OH. We feel this schedule will have the side well prepared for MRL play which will begin in April.
2/7/09 - Storm 92 was placed in the Vapor Division (top flight) of the Ohio Elite Showcase slated to begin play on Feb 26. Storm is grouped with Chicago Fire Jrs, Indy Burn and Eagles SC Black from Columbus, OH. This is the first major college showcase Storm will attend this season. Storm was also recently accepted to the Crossroads of America Showcase, hosted by Carmel Academy in Carmel, IN.
1/11/09 - Storm won 3 matches and lost 1 in its first ever Tampa Sun Bowl in Tampa, FL. Storm was grouped with CFU FC (Central Florida United), Plantation FC (Miami, FL) CASA CAPA 91 (Pennsylvania) and NASA Premier from Atlanta, GA. Storm won its first game 2-0 over NASA, then defeated Plantation 2-0 and CFU 3-0. In the 4th game for the quarterfinal berth as group champ, Storm fell to a strong Pennsylvania team, CASA Cappa 91 by a score of 5-1. Storm had its chances early and the halftime score was 2-1. A penalty kick awarded to CAPPA and a scorching direct kick by CAPPA's #17 put the game out of reach. Nonetheless, for playing in Sun Bowl missing some players and having not been able to train much due to weather in the previous weeks, it wasnt a bad showing.
